Collaborators

State-of-the-art research into complex scientific problems requires the interaction of many disciplines. The Biochemistry Laboratory maintains active collaborations with colleagues at the Kresge Hearing Research Institute (KHRI), the University of Michigan and around the world. Examples of both long-standing and recent collaborations include:

Georgia

We are continuing our collaboration with our colleagues at the Center for Audiology and Hearing Rehabilitation in Tbilisi, the capital of the Republic of Georgia. The group around Professor Zurab Kevanishvili has a joint interest with us in hearing loss and its prevention. We have been working together since 2002, and several publications have already resulted from studies on drug-induced hearing loss (with Dr. Eka Kharkheli) and age-related hearing impairment (with Dr. Nino Sharashenidze).

China

The Department of Otolaryngology at the Fourth Military Medical University in Xi'an, China, (Chair: Huang Wei Guo) has conducted clinical trials to prevent aminoglycoside-induced hearing loss.

China

We hope that our interactions with the Department of Otolaryngology at the Union Hospital of Tongji Medical University, Wuhan (Chair: Dr. Wei-jia Kong) will grow this year.

United Kingdom

Dr. Andrew Forge, from University College, London, UK, has long collaborated with us on questions of hair cell morphology and drug-induced pathology.

Poland

We are beginning a collaboration with the group of Dr. Mariola Sliwinska-Kowalska at the Nofer Institute in Lodz, Poland, on hearing loss due to noise and exposure to solvents. Shasha and Jochen went on a working visits in 2006 and 2007.
