Undergraduate Students
Undergraduates can gain research experience and academic credit through various programs and courses affiliated with our laboratory. Students from many different degree programs with an interest in cochlear prosthesis research or other aspects of our laboratory may inquire about a position. Here is a list of links, to some of the more popular programs and opportunities for undergraduates:
- UROP - Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. This program, primarily open to first and second year students and is taken for credit or work-study for one or two semesters. See their web page for applications and more information.
- Psychology 331 - Laboratories in Biopsychology. This four-credit course is designed to provide an opportunity to gain direct, hands-on experience working in a biopsychology or cognitive science laboratory. The majority of effort in Psych 331 results from work in an individual faculty member's lab. This class is designed to allow students to receive a research experience, including non-laboratory aspects of research, comparable to that of a beginning graduate student.
- Psychology 408 - Field Practicum in Research Techniques/Natural Science. This field practicum course offers an opportunity to integrate experiential and academic work within the context of a field setting. Students make their own arrangements to work in a psychology research lab. They meet regularly with a faculty sponsor and research group to discuss their experiences, read materials which are relevant to the research topic and techniques being used, and create some form of written product that discusses the research and the student's participation in the research process.

Graduate Students
Graduate students interested in animal or human psychophysics or in the relationship between psychophysical performance and underlying anatomy and neurophysiology are invited to join our research team. We can mentor students from a variety of programs, including biopsychology, neuroscience and bioengineering. For stipend support, students should apply to their home department or program, or to the training program in Hearing, Balance, and Chemical Senses.

Medical Students
- The Student Biomedical Research Program is a full-time three-month summer research training program with a stipend. Call 763-1296 for more details.
- Medical Student Research Clerkship (Oto-AUDP.101) - Science in Clinics - Auditory Prosthesis. One month full-time clerkship on clinical and research aspects of auditory prostheses.
- Medical Scientist Training Program M.D. to Ph.D. graduate training program.
Post-Doctoral Traineeships
Post-doctoral positions are also available in the Human Perception and Psychophysics Laboratory for a person interested in evaluating the features of stimulation important for electrical hearing. This work utilizes adult subjects with cochlear implants and normal hearing subjects using acoustic simulations of implant processors.
In addition, see the Hearing, Balance, and Chemical Senses program.
