Research Duties
My work in the Pfingst lab involves many projects and many aspects of research. My main responsibility is the lab's organization and productivity. Aspects of my work include:
- coordinating a complex and diverse research and training program that includes supervising and training graduate students, medical students, undergraduates, and other staff to do responsible research
- performing guinea pig cochlear implant surgeries and post-surgical care
- constructing guinea pig cochlear implants
- psychophysically training and testing guinea pigs
- collecting and processing data
- coordinating collaborative research with other labs
- maintaining and repairing equipment
Projects my work contributes to are: Animal Psychophysics and Neurophysiology - Studies in Guinea pigs and Functional Effects of Deafness and Neural Stimulation in Guinea pigs. The ultimate goals of my research are to improve speech perception and implant function for cochlear implant users as well as to create an enjoyable and healthy work environment for all lab personnel and guinea pigs.
