Research Project
In conventional cochlear implants, external auditory phenomena are ultimately delivered as current through different electrode channels. However, it is not completely understood to what degree these channels interact or summate when stimulated simultaneously or in close temporal succession. To better understand the possible channel interaction, we are studying cortical responses that result from modulating both the stimulus pulse train frequency (250 Hz vs. 4kHz) as well as the temporal offset between them. The stimuli are delivered to an anesthetized guinea pig with an in-house dual channel implant and cortical responses are measured using a mutli-channel recording probe.
