Facilities

Laboratory

Dr. Dolan directs the Cochlear Physiology laboratory in Kresge Hearing Research Institute. He occupies 355 sq. ft. of laboratory space at Kresge Hearing Research Institute, as well as 550 sq. ft. of laboratory space in a new building on the University of Michigan Medical School Campus, Medical Science Research Building (MSRB) III. He has access to equipment in the laboratory at MSRBIII and the equipment in the Auditory Physiology Laboratory in the KHRI building. Three Acoustic Systems Sound Booths and one IAC Sound Booth and two noise exposure facilities are available for projects.

Computers

Ten PC computers available for projects, data analysis, word processing, and email.

Offices

Dr. Dolan maintains an office immediately next to the laboratory space in MSRB-III, as well as office space at Kresge Hearing Research Institute.

Shops

Machine shop and electronic shop facilities are available. These shops are located on the first level of KHRI. The personnel in these facilities will provide routine service of equipment and will repair (in-house) hardware that fails and for which the faults are serviceable at this site. Custom constructed devices are provided by these shops.

General University Support

The University of Michigan also offers extensive central support facilities. The University and its Medical Center provide an outstanding intellectual and technological setting for molecular biology and hearing research and training. Additional central administrative support services include the Division of Research Development and Administration (DRDA); and Personnel, Purchasing, Financial Operations, Plant, and Maintenance Departments.

Library

The University of Michigan library system, among the finest in the nation, includes the Undergraduate, Graduate, Taubman Medical (located in a building on the Medical campus approximately midway between the Kresge Hearing Research Institute and MSRB-III), Engineering, School of Public Health, Natural Science, and more than 20 other departmental or divisional libraries. Current holdings total almost 6 million volumes; and over 47,000 periodicals and serials are received. Services and facilities include a computerized bibliographic search service of over 250 data bases, interlibrary loan, a separate government documents room, and a rare book room. The library system has one of the largest computerized on-line catalog systems in the country.

Information Technology

The University of Michigan Information Technology Division provides state-of-the art computing services, consulting, documentation, and training workshops to all faculty, staff and students for both instructional and research purposes. The University has recently converted from a mainframe computing environment to a distributed environment. UMNet provides access to a variety of computer services as well as to the statewide MERIT network and to other networks in the nation and worldwide.
