Neuropharmacology/Physiology Laboratory
Sanford C. Bledsoe, Jr., Ph.D., Laboratory Director
With the retirement of Dr. Bledsoe, the research program of the Neuropharmacology/Physiology Laboratory has been significantly reduced. Formerly, the research focused on four programs designed to:
- develop acute and chronic micromachined drug-delivery systems,
- determine the role that descending (efferent) neural pathways play in cochlear function and central acoustic processing,
- understand mechanisms of brain adaptability that occur with deafness, and
- elucidate the characteristics of central auditory system activation associated with cochlear prosthetic stimulation.
In retirement, Dr. Bledsoe will continue active collaborations with Drs. Altschuler, Anderson, Holt, Le Prell, Pfingst, Raphael, and Shore on studies related to lateral olivocochlear efferents, central auditory prostheses, and tinnitus.
