Welcome to KHRI!
Welcome! On these web pages we wish to introduce you to our Institute, our faculty and our research and training programs.
The sense of hearing and the understanding of spoken language are central elements of our sensory and intellectual worlds. Yet, communication disorders are now recognized as one of the major health concerns of this country. Hearing losses of significant severity affect more than 28 million individuals representing all age groups. Approximately one-half of such losses are thought to be of hereditary origin. Hearing losses acquired during life can be the result of a variety of causes, including exposure to noise, treatment with certain drugs, various diseases and the aging process itself. The incidence of hearing loss and its severity increases with age, affecting one in three individuals over the age of 65, and one in two over the age of 75.
